Tokyo Takes Over New York Fashion Week

While New York Fashion Week is known to favorite American designers, this year Tokyo took over the catwalk at the Tokyo Runway Meets New York fashion show. The group show was held on February 19 at the Salon at the Lincoln Center.

The show was put on by Tokyo Runway, and was organized in conjunction with the Japan Ministry of Economy in an effort to bring international exposure and business to the Japanese fashion industry. Shinji Hirato, who produced the show, said, “Choosing to show at New York Fashion Week rather than other fashion capitals was a natural choice as New York City is celebrated for its diversity and a kindred spirit with Tokyo’s energy, eclectic tastes, and excitement.”

The runway showcased the best of the most contemporary and cutting edge young designers of Tokyo. Brands included Fig&Viper––headed by international model and DJ Alisa Ueno––and the up and coming brand AULA.

Tokyo has long been fetishized for its ‘kawaii’ and Harajuku fashion. The Tokyo Runway Meets New York show was the first big step in proving that Tokyo is a serious fashion contender.

Kanye Says the Darndest Things: 10 Best Kanye West Quotes

At the 2015 BET Honors, Kanye West was awarded for his vision and gave an incredible speech that moved the audience. That being said, Kanye West is more famous for his big mouth, boisterous big headed attitude, and love of Kim Kardashian’s butt than his ability to deliver a good speech. This combination leads him to a preposterous amount of hilarity that comes out of his mouth. After all, who can forget Kanye’s infamous Taylor Swift outburst?

Check out some of the funniest things the rapper has ever said in the slideshow above.

Kim Kardashian gave up all of her best kept beauty secrets this week, and in addition to not washing her hair for five days the star also revealed that it’ll cost you about $2K to get her face. 10 Lust-Worthy Boots You Need Now

Great shoes will carry you to great places––at least that’s always been my motto. My preferred method of travel is in boots. High or flat, ankle or knee length I wear them everyday. Exclusive NYFW Coverage from Mariale of Makeuplocalypse

Hi loves! I just got back from a week at New York Fashion Week where I was working as a host for Fashion One TV and it was an amazing experience! During my stay, I lived and breathed fashion! I woke up very early to get ready, and of course post some updates for you on Instagram. The first day I took a taxi to the Lincoln Center, where most of the shows were held, but I quickly realized that the only way to get around in New York is the subway, unless you are willing to spend half your day in traffic… And that was a luxury I definitely didn’t have! So for the rest of my stay I turned into what I would like to say is a “mini New Yorker”. I had my walking shoes to wear on the subway which I would switch out for heels right before the show.

Along with Fashion One TV I got to go to so many shows, but the best part of it was getting to go backstage […] Work backstage isn’t only about the designers though, one of my favorite parts was interviewing the stylists, makeup artists and even the models. It was really interesting to see how they got to walk those shows, although I heard the same story a lot “I was scouted and now Im here” Makes it seem so easy!!

Tom Ford Brings LA to the Fashion Forefront

Tom Ford took a huge gamble, not showing up for London Fashion Week and instead hosting a show in Los Angeles. With the Academy Awards only two days from Friday’s show, most celebrities in the world were stationed in LA, making the choice of venue for Mr. Ford’s show extremely strategic in a world where celebrities equal profitability.

Among the celebrities present at the show were: Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, Elton John, John Legend, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams and Oscar nominees, Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore. Jay Z and Beyonce were late to the show and apologized to Tom Ford.

“Tom [Ford] told me not to wear anything under this dress tonight, so I didn’t,” said Miley Cyrus from the front row at the show.

Ford pulled all kinds of strings to divert attendees of the London Fashion Week to attend his showing including editors like Anna Wintour, Joanna Coles, and Joe Zee. He also convinced models like Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, and newbie standout Gigi Hadid to ditch London for LA.

Ford is a pioneer, a businessman, and leading a revolution towards making Los Angeles a mainstay contender with New York, London and Paris in the fashion industry. All eyes are on LA as the city continues to mature.
