Less Sex, More Politics: American Apparel Gets a Serious Makeover

American Apparel is known for its hipster clientele, softcore ads, and countless numbers of sexual harassment lawsuits. Despite the label’s best efforts to combat pressing social issues like same-sex marriage and workplace inequality, all of the bad press has taken a toll on business.

American Apparel was first opened in 1989 and became popular for its sweatshop free garments produced in every hue imaginable. Basics to booty shorts, AA became a one stop shop for clothing for all. In recent years, however, the brand has suffered at the hand’s of now former CEO Dov Charney. Charney has been accused of multiple counts of in-company sexual harassment and, after much deliberation, was fired from the company in December.

American Apparel then.

Now, Paula Schneider has come on board and is trying to give American Apparel a much needed makeover. Less sex, and more politics is Schneider’s game and in just a few short weeks (six, to be exact) Schneider has proved herself to be capable of making this change. In an interview with Marie Claire, Schneider stressed, “[…] we have to get past the idea that it’s just a clothing brand. It’s not. Our customers expect social commentary; they expect it to be a part of their lives.”

American Apparel now. Brendan Jordan, who came out at 15.

Schneider went on to say that the sexy, and often sexist, AA ads were outdated and part of the reason why the company was losing profitability. So what’s her next course of action? Schneider is dedicated to bringing American Apparel to the forefront of ecommerce in addition to diversifying their advertisements. She said, “ In a new video, we had transgender models, young models, models in their 70s, women who were eight feet tall—we aim to be inclusive. It’s more a psychographic than a demographic that we look to.»

Could Carine Roitfeld be Cast in Zoolander 2?

The announcement of Zoolander 2 at the Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week may have been the most memorable moment of the season. The beloved duo, Zoolander and Hansel, made a comeback on the runway as the official announcement of Zoolander 2.

Anna Wintour has already made a cameo with the two icons, and Karlie Kloss has been confirmed for the film. Other supermodels like Jourdan Dunn, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Cara Delevingne are all rumored to make special appearances in the film––and now, Carine Roitfeld, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, wants in on the action.

Jennifer Lopez’s Legs are the New Star of American Idol

The American Idol XIV Finalist Party held at The District in Los Angeles on Wednesday to celebrate the final 12 contestants on the Fox television show brought out a bombshell judge that continues to surprise us with her bodacious curves even at the age of 45. Jennifer Lopez was the star of the party in an off white and gold dresses that showed off her perfect legs.

Lopez’s Marchesa frock featured a gold embroidered pattern from its mock turtleneck to the very short hem and sheer sleeves with sequin detail. Her makeup was flawless with pale blue shadow on both her upper and lower eyelids along with a delicate rose blush on her cheeks and a pale pink lip gloss.

She coupled the dress with a white and gold clutch and nude suede heels. The booty star is being raved as the bell of the ball.

Besides her career as an American Idol judge, Lopez has been promoting a new single off the soundtrack for DreamWorks animated film Home, titled Feel The Light.

Taylor Swift’s Legs Insured for $40 Million, Most Expensive Body Parts in Hollywood

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift has some of the nicest legs in Hollywood, but how much are they actually worth? At five-foot-ten inches tall, her legs for days are worth 40 million dollars––or at least that’s how much she just had them insured for. Taylor’s not the only one to have her body parts insured, however. As weird as it may sound, having your legs or teeth insured is a normal practice in Hollywood.

See who’s been insured for what and for how much in the gallery above!

Keep it in Your Pants, Selfie Sticks are Over

Selfie sticks were novel and ~fun~ for about a month and a half, but they’ve officially been deemed irrelevant by Vogue, The National Gallery in London, and now me. Anna Wintour and Zoolander may have been spotted taking selfies together with a selfie stick backstage at Valentino, but not even two fashion icons can resurrect the stick.

The Palace of Versailles, The National Gallery, and the Art Institute of Chicago have all banned selfie sticks of any kind from being used on their premises, and they are only the most recent of such bans. Soccer stadiums in Brazil, Rome’s Colosseum, and Vienna’s world renowned museum, Albertina, have also introduced selfie stick bans. Vogue reports that, in South Korea, “[…] the sale of ‘unlicensed’ selfie sticks is actually prohibited in the entire country.” So why the sudden ban on everyone’s favorite way to be narcissus-stick?

Other than being completely obnoxious, representatives have reasoned that selfie sticks are potentially hazardous. According to the Chicago Tribune, “Officials at Palace of Versailles outside Paris, and Britain’s National Gallery in London, announced the bans Wednesday, saying they need to protect artworks and other visitors.”

Bad news for celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Diddy who notoriously favor the stick. I hope the Belfie stick is next.

Союз моды и искусства — Новая площадка St.Petersburg Fashion Week

Zoolander and Hansel Take the Valentino Runway at Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week’s Valentino show was spectacular, but one moment stole the show. Derek Zoolander, played by Ben Stiller, and Hansel, played by Owen Wilson, took over the catwalk to announce Zoolander 2, sequel to the cult classic Zoolander. Luckily Anna Della Russo was there to capture this magic moment in entertainment and fashion history over her Instagram account.

Valentino also posted a photo of the stars from the film striking a pose with Anna Wintour. Even the cold, dead serious editor-in-chief of Vogue couldn’t help but crack a smile.

Rumors have been circulating about a sequel for years and the rumors have finally come to fruition. In 2010 Ben Stiller spoke with MTV about the possibility and said, «In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed — it just happens so quickly. I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.»

Apparently Derek and Hansel have come to terms on #Zoolander2

It’s still uncertain if Ben Stiller will again direct the second part of the Zoolander series, but as of now the film is set for a February 12, 2016 release according to a tweet from Paramount Studios. Will Ferrell will also return to reclaim his role as Mugatu.

Zoolander is an influential part of fashion now and will continue to remind us that the industry can––and should––laugh at itself. We’re counting down the days!

The Truth Behind Naomi Campbell’s Catfight with Cara Delevingne

Naomi Campbell has been making a long awaited comeback over the last year, with an Agent Provocateur campaign under her belt, returning to the catwalk at New York Fashion Week, and putting on her wildly successful Fashion for Relief show. Everyone has been on the edge of their seats to see if her infamous runway attitude would return with her comeback, and rumors have started circulating that the bitch is indeed back.

Page Six reported earlier on Monday that Naomi Campbell got in a major catfight with fellow supermodel Cara Delevingne. The two got in an argument over Rihanna that resulted in shouting, pushing, and weave pulling. According to a Page Six witness, “‘Naomi accused Cara of ‘disrespecting’ Rihanna and started yelling, before Naomi pushed Cara, who pushed back.’ Another witness added, ‘Cara pulled Naomi’s weave, but it didn’t come off.’”

Unfortunately for those who are eager to see angry Naomi make a comeback, the supermodel took to her Twitter to deny the rumors. She wrote, “Don’t know where this story has come from about @Caradelevingne and I fighting! It is completely untrue, ignore the rumours XN”.

Cara made no comment about the situation, but its safe to assume that their catfight was all just one big misunderstanding.

Kanye West’s Surprise Concert Sold Out at Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West is up to his antics again with a surprise concert in the middle of Paris Fashion Week. Bernard Arnault hooked up with Kanye to orchestrate the impromptu concert at the auditorium of his Fondation Louis Vuitton, the new Frank Gehry art destination that will put on display Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” Henri Matisse’s “Dance” and other modern masterpieces later this month.

In attendance was Oscar-winning film director and video artist Steve McQueen twirling his scarf over his head up in the VIP box. The entire crowd waved cellphones inside the cramped, sold out theater.

Also on display at the show was an exhibition of portraits of Kanye West by photographer Jackie Nickerson and the latest Kanye West music video in collaboration with Steve McQueen––in McQueen’s first music video effort––of a track off of Kanye’s upcoming album, So Help Me God.
