Fendi Menswear Gives New Life to Grandfather’s Corduroys and Natural Tones

Fashion One talks to Silvia Venturini Fendi the head of menswear and accessories and takes a look at the FENDI autumn/winter 2015 menswear collection.

The collection featured a playful mixture and manipulation of tactile textiles brought together with sophisticated schoolboy styling and preppy city cool with a hint of grandfatherly influence. Taking inspiration from corduroy, some pieces saw pin stripes cut into and printed onto fabrics like leather, fur and shilling, in both horizontal and vertical stripes. These patterns were echoed in some bold block knit sweaters and scarves and the paneled garments.

There was a grown up organic color palette with lots of earthy tans and browns with cold stone grays, but these were given a warm feeling from the rich accent pieces in retro college colors like mustard, maroon and navy blue.

Silvia Venturini Fendi tells how she reinterpreted corduroy and explains her use of props on the catwalk each season, this time giving each model a football to carry in his holdall bag, or a shilling apple charm, perfect as a reminder to “take a break” from busy modern life. The lighthearted touch of the accessories and a few ironic pieces made for a charming showcase of a collection suited for men who want to hold on to some of the freedom of school days youth whilst keeping a cool, smart and luxury look.
